Some good performances on a disappointing weekend for Ashcombe Junior teams

Ashcombe had junior teams in all four of the age group competitions held at the Kettering Volleyball Centre on 26th and 27th February 2011. The weekend started well with the Womens Under 18 squad beating Nunthorpe Eagles 2-0. Newcastle Staffs went on to beat all the other teams in the pool to come top and then Nunthorpe beat Wessex, Wessex then beat Ashcombe and the pool was decided on points with Wessex taking the second place. The Under 18 mens team fought hard but lost against very strong opposition including Newcastle Staffs who reached the final. On Sunday in the Under 16 competition the girls side beat Tettenhall Tigers but lost to Wiltshire Mavericks and North Riding while the boys team, playing with Newbury VC beat Redhill Stourbridge but lost to Boswells and Ernest Bevin. Coaches Richard Reynolds, Sue Sayers and Freda Bussey were pleased with the performances of some of the players, even though the team results were disappointing and now need to build on the promise shown with the many young players in the squads.
