Ashcombe reached both the Under 18 and Under 16 rounds of the National competitions but found the competition very high and did not reach the semi finals. The Under 16 squad coached by Sue Sayers and playing as Newbury was the most successful, beating Redhill[Stourbridge] in their pool matches and finishing a very creditable 5th place. The Under 18 squad was unable to win a match in their pool but all agreed they gained valuable experience with many of them still young enough to compete again next season.

Ashcombe junior boys have been training with Newbury in preparation for the 2nd round of the Under 16 National Championships. Jacob Obong, Harry Bird, Iain Taylor and Dan Smith were part of the successful team who beat Ernest Bevin 2 [2-0], Boswells 2 [2-0] and narrowly lost to Wessex [2-1]. The team will now go to the National Last 8 competition in Kettering on Sunday 27th February. They join the Under 16 and 18 Ashcombe girl players who are also through to last stages of the National Championships.

Under 18 Men - 1st Round at Ashcombe

Ashcombe Under 18 men's team played Southampton Mavericks and Lancing College on Sunday 21st November at the Ashcombe Volleyball Centre. New Forest were unable to field a team on the day so as 2 teams would go through it was going to be a tense competition. Ashcombe and Southampton Mavericks both beat Lancing College 2-0 so the final game was to decide the positions for the next round. The game was close but at one set each Southampton took an early lead in the final set and never let Ashcombe settle, enabling them to win the match 2-1 and take top place. Ashcombe now travel to Boswells in Essex on a date to be decided due to CEV Junior Internationals

Second round matches for Ashcombe Under 18 Men

Ashcombe Under 18 Men will be playing Boswells A and B on Sunday 23rd January at Boswells School, Essex and Tendring on Sunday 30th January at The Ashcombe Volleyball Centre at 1.00.p.m.

Ashcombe Under 16 players have been training and playing with Newbury VC and will be playing their second round competition at Wessex on Saturday 15th January against Wessex, Boswells B and Ernest Bevin B after beating Acadamy of Beach Sports and Richmond VC in the first round
