Freda Bussey has recently won a Torch Trophy Trust Award. A further nine Volleyball England volunteers – Will Roberts, Steve Walton, Mark Graham, Gordon Neale, Sam Dunbavin, James Kemp, Charlie Orton, Alan Xu and Steve Betts - were runners up. They received the Awards for their excellent contribution as volunteers to our sport. It is a big honour because the nominations received by the Trust are always of a very high standard and cover all sports within England. The Torch Trophy Trust originated in 1948 when London last hosted the Olympic Games. Before every Olympic Games a torch relay is organised from Olympia in Greece to the Host City. Following the 1948 Games, the Torch designed for the last leg of the Relay into Wembley Stadium was presented to the Trust. Since then the Torch Trophy Trust has provided bursaries to assist volunteers in sport and presented awards to individuals who have been identified as making an outstanding contribution as a volunteer in their chosen sport. Freda has been invited to an Awards Reception at The Army and Navy Club in London on Wednesday November 30th. Her Award will be presented by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra.
