Ashcombe Under 18 Women are Champions of England after beating Newcastle Staffs 3-2 in a nail biting match at The Kettering Volleyball Centre on 29th April 2012. The team was captained by Georgia Bird who led by example with ace serving, putting the Newcastle defense under pressure. Both teams found it hard to receive serve in the large arena and neither were able to establish a rhythm in attack. Alex Standifird connected well with the setting and Sian Warren and Lauren Joyce held their blocks strong to stop the Newcastle attacks at crucial points. Isi Liebchen and Sophie Szyszko struggled to find gaps in the opposition defense but kept attacking with as much variation possible, keeping Ashcombe in the fight. Kristen Ericksen served and attacked strongly throughout the match and her final tip and attacking shot finally won the match for Ashcombe. Nine of the squad will be eligible to fight for the trophy again next season and coaches Freda Bussey and Luke Thomas want to keep the side together in both junior and NVL competitions to build on this years success.

Ashcombe Volleyball Club has been named at Club of the Year by Volleyball England and received a prize of £700 towards club funds at the Volleyball England Awards Dinner on 28th April 2012. The award recognizes the outreach work taking place in schools by Luke Thomas and Freda Bussey and the many facets of the club including the Sitting team and Beach volleyball development.
Robyn Wisdom was given the award for Young Volunteer of the Year, Colin Bussey won the award for Volleyball Photo of the Year for a photograph taken at the Ashcombe Volleyball Tournament 2011 and Isi Liebchen received her award as Player of the Year for NVL Division 3 South.
