Ashcombe Dorking 2

Playing in National League Division 3 Ashcombe have a succesful team mixing youth and experience within the squad. All Division 3 players are eligible to play for the National League Division 1 team and this is seen as a natural progression for many players.

Training

Mondays 6 - 8.p.m. at Durrington High School, Worthing, West Sussex

Tuesdays 6-8.p.m. at Worthing High School, Worthing, West Sussex

Thursdays 7.30.-9.30.p.m. at The Ashcombe Volleyball Centre, The Ashcombe School, Dorking, Surrey

Training at Ashcombe VC Dorking is on every Thursday 7.30-9.30.p.m.for national League players. Training at Durrington High School, Worthing is on Mondays 6 - 8.p.m. and at Worthing High School Tuesdays 6-8.00p.m. for women and 7.30 - 9.30.p.m. for men.Training restarts at Ashcombe VC on Thursday 3rd January and at Durrington High School on Monday 7th January 2008 and at Worthing High School on Tuesday 8th January

Ashcombe 3 Chiltern Aces 2

3 long matches finished the season in home matches for Ashcombe Dorking 2. A five set marathon saw Ashcombe lose to top team Brentwood 1 in a spirited game where Ann Jarvis was awarded player of the match for her excellent defence and attcking play. While Brentwood celebrated their league victory by beating Chiltern Aces 3-1 Ashcombe prepared themselves for a final game of the season. This was another five set marathon where Nara Hasanova took on the Libero position and supported the weary Ashcombe side to victory.

A depleted Ashcombe side was unable to take a game in this weeks matches despite taking both games to 5 sets.

 

 

Sunday 16th March

Sussex Dolphins 3 ashcombe 2

Herts 1 Ashcombe 3

An excellent performance by Ashcombe Dorking 2 beating Herts 3-1 was followed by a tired and lack-lustre match againast Sussex Dolphins. It was hard to beleive that it was the some side that could play so confidently and then was unable to repeat the performace in their next game. Ashcombe Dorking 2 remain mid table with 4 matches left to play.

Sunday 24th February

Southampton 2 Ashcombe 3

Dulwich 0 Ashcombe 3

A confident 3-0 victory over Dulwich Tuskers allowed Izzy Fumagalli to start in her first National League match. Hannah Carey and Jess Grimson both blocked and spiked with power and Nara Hassanova and Sue Saunders took on the Libero role for a game each and added stability to the first pass. Gitte Watkins is fitting comfortably into the Ashcombe team and showing promise as a middle blocker/hitter.

Sunday 3rd February

Dartford 3 Ashcombe 2

A strong start by Ashcombe with positive setting by Maria Frost and strong defensive play by Sue Saunders and Debbie Frost did not last the game and a disorganised Ashcombe side lost 3-2 to Dartford. Ashcombe will be trying to recreate the atmoshere and consistency of their last league game when they travel to Southampton on 24th February.

Playing their best volleyball this season Ashcombe beat top team Tonbridge 3-1 with a confident display of volleyball. All 12 squad players had equal court time and served and defended with confidence. Sensible attack options by Maria Frost and tactical hitting by Jess Grimson, Ann Jarvis and Elaine Shoare in particular, kept Ashcombe in rallies against a tall and experienced Tonbridge team.
