Ashcombe Dorking 1

National League Division 1

Ashcombe have had a team playing in in the National Volleyball League since 1977 and two teams since 1982.

Ashcombe last won the National League Division1 and K.O. Cup double in 2000 and have since been rebuilding the side with new young locally developed players. Any player of a suitable standard wishing to play Division 1 volleyball should contact Freda Bussey.

Sponsors are being sought for the National League Division 1 and 3 teams.

Ashcombe Dorking 1 claim a place in the Super 8 2010 - Saturday 27th March 2010

Victories over Leeds and then Coventry and Riga take Ashcombe into 6th place in NVL Division 1. Dulwich Tuskers are now relegated and Leeds and Wessex have to play their final matches to see who will be in 8th place and have to face either Portsmouth or Devon as Div 2 champions in a play-off match. The new strucure will see the top Division - Super 8s above 4 lower Divisions, 1,2 and 3 with Division 3 being fed by regional competitions by 2012.

Ashcombe Dorking 1 lose in KO Cup to Swiss Cottage - 6th February 2010

Ashcombe were down to 6 players to play in the National KO Cup fixture against top team Swiss Cottage. The dedicated 6 had a great game and fought for every point.Team - Michelle Bridenbaker, Theresa Farley, Hannah Carey, Diana Hasanova, Judit Santha-Szakal and new signing Lucie Nemcova.

Wessex 3 Ashcombe Dorking 0 - Saturday 30th January 2010

Ashcombe could not find their form in their NVL match against Wessex on Saturday 30th Janauary. Strong serving by Wessex did not allow Ashcombe to get into the match. Ashcombe were onkly able to take a reduced squad to the match as many players were unavailable.

3-1 Loss to Malory London for Ashcombe Dorking 1 - 23rd January 2010

Ashcombe were unable to repeat their last 2 meetings with Malory London and lost 3-1 at Ernest Bevin School on Saturday 23rd January. The team atill retain their 4th place in Division 1. Ashcombe's next National league game is Saturday 30th January at Wessex.

Cup victory for Ashcombe v Portsmouth - 17th January 2010

With only 5 available first team players ashcombe had to call up second team players Georgia Bird, Michelle Nudds and Vera Romano to help Ashcombe Dorking to a close fought victory over Div 2 leaders Portsmouth in the KO Cup. A quarter final place now beckons against Div 1 league leaders Swiss Cottage on 6th February. Led by Michelle Bridenbaker, Ashcombe players Theresa Farley and Hannah Carey were able to block and attack with growing confidence.

Successful start to the new year for Ashcombe Dorking 1 - Saturday January 16th 2010

The restart to the 2010 season had been delayed for Ashcombe Dorking 1 and lack of training and match practice were obvious throughout the match. After allowing Dulwich Tuskers to take the third set Ashcombe found their form and took the 4th and final set 25-9 to show more of their true ability. Coaches Luke Thomas and Andy Lowczynowski had several players missing and hope to be back to full strength for next weekends match v London Malory.

2-3 Loss v University of Birmingham for Ashcombe Dorking 1 - 12th December 2009

Another close match for Ashcombe Dorking 2 finished with a 3-2 loss in their last national League game before the Chrismas break. The team was back to nearly full strength for the first time since October but lack of team cohesion was evident and the team failed to convert important points.

Weakened Ashcombe 1 take on Tameside - Saturday 5th December 2009

The long journey to Manchester to play Tameside proved a difficult one for the young Ashcombe team that was able to make the trip. Only Theresa Farley, Michelle Bridenbaker, Georgia Bird, Hannah Carey and Diana Hasanova were avilable for the match so new signing Leah Thomas took on the challenge to support the team. Thanks go to Richard Reynolds who drove the bus to take the team to face top placed team Tameside. Despite losing 3-0 the team were happy to have competed the fixture.

Ashcombe 1 lose 3-2 to Coventry and Warwick Riga - Saturday 28th November 2009

Injuries and unavailability continue to plague Ashcombe 1's season. With Sarah Clinton out for the foreseable future with a knee injury Ashcombe are struggling to find their form.

Ashcombe 1 beat Dulwich Tuskers 3 - 0 - Sunday 22nd November 2009

A spirited 3-0 victory over Dulwich Tuskers keeps Ashcombe in a top 4 place in NVL 1. New players Sylwia Meller and Ela Pyaz fitted in well to the team and gave the coaches more options in the team formations. Next weekend Ashcombe host Coventry and Warwick Riga in a home fixture that starts at 4.00.p.m.

 

Ashcombe beat Willesden VC in KO Cup - Sunday 15th November 2009

Ashcombe Dorking travelled away to play to Willesden VC on Sunday 15th November to play the London League side. The Ashcombe side took the game 3-0 and will now face the 2nd Division leading side, Portsmouth in January.

Ashcombe 1 lose to Polonia 3-0 - Saturday 14th November 2009

A second loss in NVL 1 to top place team Polonia drop Ashcombe from the top of the league table to 3rd place. A spirited performance by Ashcombe was not enough to take on the league leaders. The next Division 1 NVL match is on Sunday 22nd November v Dulwich Tuskers 12.00.p.m. start at Waverly Sports Centre SE22 ONR.

Ashcombe 0 Swiss Cottage 3 - First NVL loss for Ashcombe 1 - 24th October 2009

Ashcombe Dorking 1 faced tough opposition when playing Swiss Cottage at home on 24th October. Swiss Cottage are last seasons Division 1 winners so Ashcombe knew they were in for a tough match. The first set was very close with Swiss Cottage finally closing out 25-23 and Ashcombe playing some of their best volleyball. Ashcombe were unable to maintain their momentum and Swiss Cottage were able to press home the advantage taking the next 2 sets with a comfortable margin. More National League Success - Ashcombe beat Malory, Wessex and Leeds. October 18th 2009

Ashcombe Dorking 1 continued their successful return to Division 1 with convincing wins over Malory and Wessex and another success over Leeds after a 3-2 battle to maintain a top 2 place. Coaches Andy Lowczynowski and Luke Thomas are pleased with the teams performances so far but the team needs to raise it's game for the next few matches v Swiss Cottage and Polonia.

National League season starts with success for Ashcombe 1 - 12th September 2009

Ashcombe Dorking 1 travelled to University of Birmingham to play their opening game of the 09-10 season on 12th September. The strong young Ashcombe team made an impressive start to the season winning with a comfortable 3-0 score line. [25-10, 25 - 7, 25-15]. The next Division 1 game is a home game against Malory Eagles [London] on Saturday 26th September.
